Apollyon is set to annihilate the New Blood Stage on Saturday 11th at this year’s Bloodstock.
We catch up with the band to find out more about them, the festival and what you lucky Bloodstock go-er’s will see!
Can you give the readers a quick introduction to the band?
Apollyon formed round about 2008 after Gareth Owen and I (Glen Brazier) had an extremely pissed up chat in the pub about how pathetic our local music scene was. I didn’t know Gareth that well at the time but when I seen his well formed, stumpy sausage like fingers I knew he would be the bassist to compliment the filthy riffs I had been knocking out like turds in my bedroom. James Roberts was the final addition to the band; he tightened things up and brought another direction.
The three of us have three completely different metallic tastes in music ranging from your typical heavy Pantera, Carcass, At The Gates to old school thrash, punk and grunge, combine all these genres together and you have Apollyon, a unique blend of heavy riffs, dynamic drumming and militant vocals delivering a rarity to the existing scene.
Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?
We have been to Bloodstock, it’s an amazing festival, with a great atmosphere. Bloodstock seems to be the heavier UK festival, it has all the excitement of any festival like Download or Sonisphere minus a lot of the crap acts your likely to get there, Bloodstock is one class band after another with a whole bunch of friendly people to go with them and that’s what we enjoy most about Bloodstock.
Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?
We have been trying to play on the New Blood Stage now for a couple of years, we were fortunate enough to reach to finals in the last two consecutive years in the Metal To The Masses competition but less fortunate than the two bands that beat us in both finals, however, this year has been different, no more heartache for us, we have grown, accepted critics and come back each year a stronger band. Now we feel we are ready to stand our ground against all the other great bands that are fortunate enough to play at this level and playing at the same festival alongside bands we have all grew up listening to is something we all really wanted to be a part of.
What was your initial reaction when you found out you where playing on the New Blood Stage?
What do you think? To say we all blew our beans in our pants would be a complete understatement… Jams moustache was twitching, I ejaculated from every hole and Gareth was rolling round on the floor amongst the mess! Great times…
What is your opinion of the Bloodstock lineup?
The Bloodstock Lineup is getting better every year and this year has not disappointed! It’s one class act after another, normally at festivals I float around catching the bands that I’m interested in but there are so many be bands here that we all want to see.
What are you looking forward to most at Bloodstock?
Other than playing, doing everything you would expect to look forward to doing at a festival, Drinking, spewing, pissing, shitting, partying, moshing, mashing and watching Gaz have his way with all the young ladies, especially the plump ones.
What can the audience expect from you at the festival?
EXPECT US TO BE LOUD! Motivated and extremely aggressive! We are well up for this!
Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?
Bloodstock is going to be heavier than a 10 ton period! People should go to it because Apollyon are playing!
Thank you for taking the time out to complete this interview, we are looking forward to seeing you at Bloodstock \m/
