For almost 30 years, New York-born Jeff Scott Soto has been one of the most respected hard rock vocalists in the business, with a career that has included stints with Yngwie Malmsteen, Soul SirkUS, Journey, the iconic Talisman and, most recently, Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Last year, he released his fifth solo album, ‘Damage Control’, to both renewed critical and fan acclaim, and next month sees the arrival of the long-awaited second release from W.E.T. – the supergroup which also includes Robert Säll of Work Of Art and Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse. JSS also returns to the UK for a solo tour this coming Spring.
So, what better time to sit down with the charismatic frontman – albeit with the width of the Atlantic Ocean between us – and discuss his storied career to date and his plans for the future? What follows is an extremely frank, honest – and completely unedited (as you’ll hear from an early interruption) – trans-oceanic chat…
