With a city full of ‘new’ students, it’s difficult to gauge how many will turn up for a rock night, but a decent crowd materialised with a good mix of young and younger to listen to this 4 band lineup.
First up were local lads RUNDOWN, who put in a tight set of covers and self-penned songs. Keep an eye out for these guys as the original material was really strong and promises good things to come if they can build on it.
Next on stage came UGLY HARMONIES, an alternative rock 4-piece from Rhyl, who in Mickey Pennington have a strong frontman to put across their brand of Nirvana/Foo Fighters/Pearl Jam-esque vibe, but with a classic rock tinge as well, great stuff indeed.
Third on stage were Conwy based ZEBEDY, who are on a completely different level despite being reduced to a 3-piece for tonight’s set. Their brand of melodic metal/rock with a progressive sound is nothing short of superb, with vocalist Jonny Harding-Smith on top form, the band closing with the rousing ‘This Is My City’, before drummer Tom Dyson took on vocal duties for the encore cover of ‘Bullet In The Head’. Follow that!
To be fair WOLVES had a damn good go at it, the North Wales post-hardcore 4-piece give it their all with boundless energy and really catchy material.
More nights like this in North Wales please!
