London based Alexa de Strange have released their EP “Tits of death”. Definitely a title designed to get attention and it does make a nice change from all those bands releasing self titled EPs and albums (are they really that short of imagination that they can’t think of a decent album title).
I’ve seen the band play live doing a fairly short set, so was looking forwad to hearing the EP, and it doesnt disappoint.
The EP starts with “Blaze (in the heart of hell), a good straightforward rock song with some nice guitar work and an almost punk style of vocals
“Stardust” gives a change of pace and style with a good groove and some interesting vocals.
“Luxxxurious” has got a fairly distinctive sound – it’s rock but with a dose of pop or disco mixed in, so it’s really catchy – it reminds me of DOnna Summer’s “I feel love” somehow, but made into a rock song. That may be a strange description, but this really is far too catchy to be just called rock.
“If only” shows a different side to the band as the vocals of Francesca Lee are the centre of attention with the music much softer to start with. It’s a ballad and the vocals really sound great. Once the muci increases in power and volume the vocals switch from a soft ballad style to a slightly more operatic style. It’s a great song, and at six minutes long does dominate the EP.
I really like this EP. All the tracks have very different sounds, and all show a different aspect of the vocals. I really hope they record and release an album before too long.
