Sad news for fans and bands who were planning to be at this year’s amplified festival – the organisers have just announced the event will be cancelled due to visa issues meaning some bands were at risk of not being able to play. Since the headliners and some of the other acts were all non UK/EU acts then these are presumably the affected acts and it’s fair to say many fans would have been unhappy had they turned up to a festival and found out the headliners were all cancelled. This is not a decision any promoter takes lightly.
The statement reads…
It is regrettable to inform everyone that unfortunately due to issues beyond our control this year’s event has been cancelled.
After numerous correspondence and due to the reluctance of the relevant agencies to confirm any visa acceptance paperwork for certain acts booked to perform here in July, which is a requirement of entering the UK, we have taken the unenviable decision to cancel the event.
With just over 4 weeks to go and still with no confirmation or guarantee that acts booked will be present to perform at the event as advertised, this decision has not been taken lightly and has been taken in light of any public unrest that could possibly ensue and the associated policing costs if said advertised acts were not present at the event.
As you can imagine this comes as a huge and personally devastating blow to Amplified and all those supportive of this independent grassroots festival and those who have worked tirelessly to make it the successful event it has become.
We will communicate with all other affected parties directly and a full public statement will be released in due course.
