ATTICA RAGE – D’MELTING POT CHESTER 20/05/11 (GIG)

This triple bill showcased the launch of the Hard Rock Hell Chester Chapter’s planned monthly gig nights and first up were North Wales based 4-piece Zebedy who powered through a 5 song set with buckets of enthusiasm and obvious talent as well with tracks like ‘The Fallen’ and set closer ‘This Is My City’, demonstrating that with the right amount of luck/promotion and everything else needed a bright future surely lies ahead.
Next up headliners Attica Rage who made the not insignificant trek down from Glasgow with stand in bassist Pete McCoy of fellow Scottish rockers Afterlife in tow to crank up the party mood with an hour long set which drew heavily from the new album Road Dog with it’s mix of fist punching anthems such as ‘Contradictions’ to the power ballad tinged emotions of ‘Ashamed’ the latter prompting the crowd to sing the chorus back at the band, which shows just how far these boys have come in the last couple of years in terms of song writing and musicianship. However a party night is just that and with raucous covers of AC/DC’s ‘Dirty Deeds’ and Billy Idol’s ‘Rebel Yell’ amongst others the room was jumping and baying for more. 2011 will be a busy year for the band with festival appearances already booked and a headline tour planned for later, and on the evidence of tonight’s show the sky’s the limit.
It’s always a difficult job to follow a headliner but local lads No Signal approached it well with their brand of Alternative/Pop Punk, closing the nights live proceedings with a storming cover of RATM’s ’Killing In The Name Of’, sending the crowd to the bar to ’socialise’ and look forward to the next instalment of what hopefully will become a regular event in the Chester live music scene.
