Black Blitz – Louder than Thunder

LTT_1440-300x300Black Blitz are a three piece formed in 2009 in Munich, Germany.  They are Thomas Bauer on guitar/vocals, Christian Reiter on bass and Thomas Pribbenow on drums.

On forming the band the trio decided the best way to learn their trade was to play live as much as possible so they did this for two years before releasing debut album Born to Rock in 2011.  They then went back to continuous gigging until May 2013 when they went into the studio to begin work on what was to become second album Louder than Thunder, released on their own label Blitz Music, and distributed through their website and Amazon.  Over the course of thirteen studio sessions they produced what they’ve called, “ten new songs of skull crushing rock and roll.”

Black Blitz are very clear about where they come from, it’s all about old school rock, loud guitars, riffs and catchy choruses and all of the above can be found in abundance on this album.  Perhaps as a nod to their global rock influences, and as a way of opening themselves up to a wider audience they sing in English, which makes the album much more accessible.  At a running time of only 39 minutes it’s very short, but packed full of good rock songs.  Title track Louder than Thunder basically spells out the band’s manifesto, “We’re gonna rock you, louder than thunder, hotter than hell.”  And they certainly give it a damn good shot.  No ballads here, this album starts off hard with Drinking Dynamite, and maintains the pace throughout.  My standout track is Double the Trouble, which features an excellent guitar solo and a chorus perfect for a crowd singalong when played live.  In fact, the whole album really reflects the band’s dedication to playing live as much as possible.  They recently toured outside Germany for the first time, and due to increasing attention from outside their own country have created an English language version of their website.  Things certainly seem to be going well for Black Blitz and on the evidence of this album that is bound to continue.
