“Georgia Pine” is the second EP from Birmingham band Broken Witt Rebels, and is due for release in April. If you haven’t listened to the band before, they have a sound that is part Indie rock, and part bluesy Southern rock. While that may sound like a slightly odd pairing, the results are excellent.
The vocals are great – nice and powerful and full of passion and feeling, reminiscent of Reef (although I prefer the vocals here over those in Reef). The music is equally impressive, and the songs are extremely good. All of this leaves you wanting to hear more (hence why I’ve had this EP on constant repeat for the last couple of days).
The Southern rock sound is certainly popular at the moment with bands like Blackberry Smoke releasing some great albums with that sound, so Broken Witt Rebels should do well with this EP. If they’re anywhere near as good live as they are on this EP then their live shows are definitey going to be impressive.
A band to watch – I’m sure they’re going to keep getting better and better. Hopefully they’ll deliver a full length album before too long as I certainly want to hear more of these guys.
