Bull-Riff Stampede, pre-Bloodstock festival interview

Bull-Riff Stampede are set to slay the New Blood Stage on Saturday 11th at this year’s Bloodstock.

We catch up with the guys to find out more about them, what their are about, the festival and what you lucky Bloodstock go-er’s will see!

Can you introduce yourself?

This is Dave, Jay, James and Rod and we are Bull-Riff Stampede, we play a Thrash/Death metal mix influenced mainly by bands we grew up listening to ie, Megadeth, Machine head, Strapping young lad, Testament etc, we Dave and Jay started writing under the name of BRS, a name which Jay had floating around a few years prior. Back in 2009 when we were both playing for “Anger Management” it all started when Jay had some new material he wanted to lay down so we started from there and we wrote the rest of the album over the course of a year before we hit the studio, we found we were writing material different to anything the pair of us had ever played and saw enough potential to take it further than we expected,

Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?

We’ve all been to Bloodstock several times before, Dave Jay And Rod have also played the festival before in previous bands, this will be James’s first bloodstock appearance, Rod is a Bloodstock Veteran and has been attending since the indoor days, what’s not to enjoy about it? It’s a brilliantly organized festival with a fantastic atmosphere and it’s not spread square mile after square mile of fields!! And the lineup is always strong!,

Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?

To be honest we didn’t expect to be playing, we did a guest joint headline slot in Gravesend for one of the Bloodstock metal 2 the masses rounds, after that they asked us to return for the region finals at the London Underworld upon which we’d be up against 2 other bands for a chance to play Bloodstock, we were on the Bloodline cd series which is a 3cd compilation pack, put together by the Rock Matrix and Unified sounds to give people a taster of the uk’s underground music scene, all the proceeds went towards cancer research too which is awesome, Simon Hall picked 3 bands (1 from each Bloodline cd) to go to the Camden Underworld to play for a possible Bloodstock Slot, and we got one!

What was your initial reaction when you found out you were playing on the New Blood Stage?

Well Simon hall announced the winners at the end of the finals so we were all together as a band and with friends that had come to support us and as you can imagine there was an almighty roar from us, since then it’s all been business with regards to promotion etc and of course focusing on the show itself using the shows leading up to Bloodstock to make sure were all together with our live set ready to show the crowd what were all about!

What is your opinion of the Bloodstock lineup?

Fantastic! There’s been a lot of controversy about certain bands playing from the “elitist” festival goers but Machine Head at Bloodstock? W.T.F!! – M.F.H!! -\M/  We can’t wait!!

It’s a huge lineup this year, all the headliners are great, it’s gonna be cool seeing Nergal “Behemoth” kicking some ass after his time out last year, what an inspirational guy! Every stage has something you want to watch so there should be no need to grumble, if there’s nothing on the main stage you want to watch, go to a different stage and discover some new bands!

What are you looking forward to most at Bloodstock?

Obviously we’re looking forward to playing the show but before and after that were gonna be checking out as many of the bands as we can, it’s also a great place to meet new people and come home with some great memories, Bloodstock has never disappointed so why should this year be any different?!  It’s such a great metal community, we will try and show our support where and whenever we can, a few bands we’ll definitely be checking out, Machine Head, Behemoth, Nile, Testament, Bloodshot Dawn, Evile and plenty more!!

What can the audience expect from you at the festival?

A Brutal, Relentless set that won’t let up until the final note is struck! We always try and make our shows as interactive and fun as we can so we’ll do our bit and fingers crossed the Head Banging Bastards that decide to come and check us out will also do theirs! It’s gonna be great!

Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?

The Best Metal festival in the uk in the truest form!
