They sure do like their rock and roll in Toronto, Canada, point proven by roots, rock, blues and soul band Bywater Call, releasing their fourth single ‘Everybody Knows’, taken from new studio album Shepherd on August 9th, 2024. My first spin of it brought to mind Janis Joplin jamming with The Black Crowes, but another listen was essential to appreciate it’s majesty! Earworm riffs weave around this ballsy ballad, given lashings of melody from Gospel parts, gaining momentum for a kick your ass, sassy, classy and downright shitkicking party starting and finishing four electrifying minutes brought to life by the astonishing vocal prowess from Meghan Parnell.
The band are currently UK Blues Award nominated for International Blues Artist of the year and judging by the strength of the song, they’ve already won it!
