Welcome to Chasing Penguins! Are they an Olympic sport? Obviously not as the Swedish band caught me off guard with this wonderful single ‘Curtain Call’. The successors to the throne of ABBA? One never knows! It’s the follow up to a single, last released in 2024 when they rose from the ashes to fire out their self proclaimed Easycore, that mixes clean vocals with Pop-Punk Hardcore and Metal from their beginnings in Kalmar, originally formed by rhythm guitarist Jacob Alden in 2019, reforming and assembling new waddling crew.
It took a few plays to get into my head a it’s not a song I immediately got into but after a few plays on full volume, I was hooked! An earworm groove drives these charming three minutes of a lead vocal that swoops and soars over sturdy drum patterns, twin guitar heavy headbanging forays that include a midway short but still effective solo, pushing the song towards a full on outro and I look forward to hearing more new material.
