Brighton based nutters Creeping Jean, a new band to me fire out a banging new single called ‘Spice Rack’. My first impression is that it’s a boogie until you can’t boogie no more banger. A retro fuelled fuzzed up stoner rock tinged ballbusting barnstormer that fires out this tongue in cheek tinged, smile inducing headbanger, making their voices heard in just under three molten hot minutes of full on rock and roll damnation. Job done!
Brighton’s hotly tipped rising rock ‘n’ roll force, Creeping Jean, are set to release an exclusive 7″ vinyl, The Clothes Shop, for Record Store Day 2025 (April 12th). The limited-edition orange vinyl will feature two brand-new tracks recorded live inside their own vintage clothing shop, Mammoth, in the heart of Brighton’s Laines. To celebrate, the band will also embark on their “Business is (Still) Dead” UK Tour this April.

Known for their electrifying live performances and groove-laden indie anthems, Creeping Jean took an unconventional approach for this release, capturing the raw energy of their music inside the very shop that has helped fund their journey. Recorded on a rainy Sunday in November, shoppers stopped to watch through the window display or danced in the street as the band tore through two blistering new tracks: “Spice Rack” and “God Bless Honking Clover.”
Frontman Oliver Tooze explains: “The shop has been the backbone of everything we’ve done, so recording inside it just felt right. We shut up shop, crammed inside with all the jeans, leather jackets, and belts, and went for it. It was chaotic but perfect.”
With angular guitars and a driving beat, “Spice Rack” is a high-energy track that leaves room for interpretation. “I thought it was an innuendo,” jokes guitarist Rod. “We wrote it in a haze—maybe it’s a metaphor for substances?” adds Tom. “Or just… Cumin and Paprika?” laughs Olly. Whatever the meaning, “Spice Rack” brings plenty of heat.
