Cvlt Ov The Svn Interview

Finnish band Cvlt Ov The Svn give Planetmosh an interview ahead of their first ever live performance in London supporting Ice Nine Kills at O2 Islington Academy on Friday 27th September.

Q: Can you tell us about yourselves and how Cvlt Ov The Svn formed?

A: The right minded people gravitated towards the music. I wrote all the music during last four years. In studio I play all other instruments myself, except the drums.

Q: There is a wonderfully dark atmosphere to your music, at what age were you attracted to the darkness and what influenced you first, dark music or horror?

A:  Think it was the movies at first. I remember the TV series “V” giving me the chills as a little lad.  Black metal was introduced to me when I was fourteen or so. That’s the time I joined my first band as a drummer. It was called “Massacre of Darkness”, obviously.

Q: What is your favourite decade or genre of horror films?

A: Well, personally I prefer books, but I think it would be suspense. “The Shining” by King is a classic.

Q: How would you describe your music and what bands are your influences?

A: It’s mix up of all sorts. Pantera has always had a huge influence. Manson, Backyard Babies in their early years, Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC to name a few.

Q: Can you pick one song from your current E.P. and explain the writing process?

A: The title track “Luna In The Sky Forever” was one of the first songs made into being. It came together quite easily, almost if it was channeled. The bass line is sort of the main thing for me in this one. The lyrics tell a bitter tale, bitter to the very end.

Q: Are there any Finnish bands you would recommend to our readers?

A: Amorphis is great. They have very Finnish themes to their songs and are influenced by KALEVALA, which is the national epic of Finland.

Q: If you could take one album onto a deserted island, what would it be?

A: Jean Michel Jarre: Oxygène

Q: What have you got planned for 2020?

A: Hope to get more music released and tour the shit out of it
