Summary:

"Blood money" is the best Danny Bryant album to date - absolutely superb Blues music

British Blues guitarist Danny Bryant is back with a new album, less than 18 months after the release of “Temperature rising”, his last album.  In between these releases he’s been busy touring – he certainly works hard.  On this album he’s got two special guests – Bernie Marsden, and Walter Trout, freshly recovered from a major illness.

Brief comments on a few tracks…

Opening track “Blood money” features a guest appearance from Danny Bryant’s mentor – Walter Trout.  I’m not fond of the opening few seconds – a drum part that just has a very hollow and unnatural sound, but after those opening couple of seconds the rest of the song is fantastic.  You can listen to the song below.

“Slow suicide” is a slower song, and Danny adjusts his vocals to suit.  It’s a beautiful track.

“On the rocks” is a homage to the late American blues guitarist Albert Collins.  It’s a superb instrumental led of course by the guitar, and there really is some superb guitar work here.  Backing up the guitar you have the drums and the Hammond organ.  It’s really a fantastic track and one of many highlights of the album.

“Sugar sweet” might seem like the title of a ballad but this is no ballad – it’s a great blues-rock song.

“Just won’t burn” features a guest appearance from Bernie Marsden.  At almost seven minutes long it’s the longest track on the album, and it’s also a real highlight – this really is a stunningly good song, and the guitar solo is just sublime.

“Blood money” is the best Danny Bryant album to date – absolutely superb Blues music.  I’ve been listening to the album a lot over the last few weeks, and now the review is written I’m going to keep on listening – it’s just too good to put down.  I look forward to hearing some of the songs played live on Danny Bryant’s UK tour (check below for the dates).

“Blood money” will be released on 29th January 2016
