Darkeye post-Bloodstock interview

darkeyeWhile we spoke to a lot of bands both signed and unsigned at Bloodstock, we were unable to manage to speak to all the up and coming  bands who played the New Blood stage, so have been catching up with the ones we missed to see how they enjoyed their Bloodstock experience

Can you give the readers a quick introduction to the band?

We are darkeye from south east london. Dean vocals and guitar, dave guitar, jeff bass and frazer on drums. Band started by dean by dean and frazer around 4 years ago after the demise of there old band violation complex. We decided to go in a more natural/prog direction as a result of the stuff that was influencing me at the time bands like the ocean, mastodon, opeth etc

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe our south as dark, heavy, atmospheric at times and BIG!! Sounding we have been likened to various different bands in the past from early machine head to gojira

What has been the bands biggest achievement so far?

So far our biggest achievement so far is with out a doubt playing the new blood stage at bloodstock festival

Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?

We wanted to be part of the new blood line up as bloodstock is a legendary metal festival and the perfect place for us to play. Personally i have had friends of mine in the past play the new blood stage and have heard nothing but great things about there experiences

What was your initial reaction when you found out you were playing on the New Blood Stage?

Our initial reaction was of total shock to be honest. We were just pleased to have got as far in the metal 2 the masses competition as we did and the quality of bands in the final was simple mind blowing.

How did you feel your set went?

I thought our set went very well we had a fantastic reception and every one in the crowd seemed to enjoy it. I was suprised how many people there were there watching us. We had alot of friends at the festival but there was an equal amount of people watching us for the first time which was great

How did you enjoy your Bloodstock experience?  Any particular highlights?

Yes we all enjoyed, the team running the new blood stage were fantastic and super helpfull. The highlight was obviously playing but the whole festival was fantastic as it always is

Did you get to watch many bands?  If so who did you enjoy seeing?

I personally enjoyed down and october file the most of all. I wanted to see shining but we clashed with them which was a bit annoying but i wouldnt change a thing

Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?

Bloodstock is bloody awesome, it is every year

Any message you wish to pass on to the PM readers?

We will be a bit quiet for the time being as were are writing new material for our upcoming debut album that we play to start recording in the new year so watch this space…….
