Summary:

Disfago are not for the faint hearted. It's fast and it's a bit too violent to appeal to all but the most hardcore punk and thrash fans. If that's your preferred genre, and you like it brutal, then you won't be disappointed! If you like your music a bit more glammy, a bit more melodic, a bit soft (you wuss) then Disfago isn't likely to appeal to you. Recommended for fans of Bones, GBH, Discharge and Sepultura.

Who are Disfago? You may ask because I can’t find much information about the band members. What I have managed to surmise is that they are a three piece thrash/punk band based in London who have all served time, in other bands, not literally! They released a five track double 7″ single via Witch Ghetto Productions on 8th June 2015. Disfago 7″ was mastered by  Thomas Taube (Ascension, Reign Of Decay, Saeculum Obscurum). According to bassist Si “…if you lack originality then you’re not rebelling and if you’re not rebelling you’ve missed the fucking point of rock n roll…

Are they rebels? I don’t see why you have to be a rebel to like good music and as to originality well there isn’t anything I haven’t heard before in Disfago. It’s brutal, it’s violent but there are similar bands out there like Birmingham Punk Band GBH and  Bones from Chicago. That said Disfago will leave your ears thinking you have done ten rounds with Mike Tyson and he’s done what he did to Evander Holyfield on not just one ear but both!

Whiskey Breath was the first track and I couldn’t really make out many of the lyrics, which were sung at 100mph but I did pick up some Dick Dale and the Deltones Miserlou style quivering riffage and I could catch the words ‘Whisky Breath’ in general this one reminded me of Roots Bloody Roots by Sepultura. 400K with a strong bass line and fast drum beat was like a cross between 2 Sick Monkeys and The Exploited. Midnight Marauder the shortest song, reminded me of VI and their track Par le jugement causé par ses poisons. I can’t understand what they’re singing either but to be fair they are singing in French! Scrvmpyfyre more of the same fast, punishing beats and I can just about make out a couple of words in this one scrumpy and fire! Then we end with the longest track Tyrant Skull (Poverty And Lust), the mellowest of the five tracks, and I only mean mellow in comparison to the others with flavours of Punk bands like Discharge, Sex Pistols and The Exploited.

Disfago are not for the faint hearted. I like some Punk but not quite as hardcore as Disfago. It isn’t bad but there’s nothing ground breaking it’s far too violent to appeal to all but the most hardcore punk and thrash fans. If that’s your preferred genre, and you like it brutal, then you won’t be disappointed! If you like your music a bit more glammy, a bit more melodic, a bit soft (you wuss) then Disfago isn’t likely to appeal to you. Recommended for fans of Bones, GBH, Discharge and Sepultura.

About Louise Swift

I first went to a gig in 1981, Gillan at Leeds University. I've been a regular gig goer ever since. I haven't kept count of how many gigs I've been to over the intervening years, but it's a lot! My favourite bands are AC/DC then, in no particular order, Anti-Nowhere League, Slaughter and the Dogs, Towers of London and Dirt Box Disco. I tend to like Glam/Punk and rude offensive lyrics, not sure what that says about me but as Animal would say 'So What!' The question was recently put to me - did I write for any online publications? My reply - No, but I'd like to! Planetmosh was suggested and I found myself offering to review Aces High Festival. Easy peasy I thought! Well not quite, if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well! I had sixteen bands to research. I found I actually enjoyed that and it kept me too busy to be making lunatic comments on Facebook! ;) Then I felt a bit inadequately qualified. I mean, who am I to comment on others, when my musical expertise extends to being able to play a mean Greensleeves on the recorder and a passable Annie's song on the flute! Haven't picked up either instrument for years! What I do have, however, is over 30 years of experience as a gig goer, so I can comment on what I like and what I don't! It's only my opinion and, if I don't like a band it doesn't mean they are bad, just not to my own liking. I admire anyone who has the guts to get up on that stage and have a go!
