Dream Awake – Get Grilled

Melodic Metalcore crew DREAM AWAKE have just smashed Download. The Belfast outfit release their new EP ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’, on Friday 18th August, the hotly-tipped quintet have also just premiered their new single ‘Mind’s Eye’ with New Noise Magazine and you can listen to it here – https://youtu.be/6ThG393ee-Y . We asked the guys to introduce themselves and to fill us in on their past:

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?

David Houston – Scream Vocals,

Conor Kelly – Clean Vocals / Guitar,

Chris Byrne – Lead Guitar,

Craig Leetch – Bass,

Daniel Kelly – Drums.

How and when did the band form?

The band formed in late 2014 by Conor, David and Daniel. After the release of the band’s first EP, Craig and Chris joined the band in 2016. We are based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, a city with a scene that goes relatively unnoticed.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

When Chris and Craig joined the band and we started playing together and exchanging ideas, it was the first time things felt serious and that we had the potential to take the band to the next level.

What are your musical influences?

In regards to bands, we would take a lot of influence from the metalcore scenes in the UK and Australia from bands such as The Amity Affliction, In Hearts Wake and Our Hollow Our Home. Lyrically we like to focus on real issues and topics that people can relate to. We tend to approach our image and ideas thematically to give our music a sense of understanding.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend? are you friends from school or any family relations?

Conor, Dave and Daniel are all school friends from the age of 12. Chris joined the band after he studied at university with Conor. Craig was a mutual friend and joined the band when we didn’t have a bassist.

Where have you played or toured?

Northern Ireland (Belfast, Portrush, Omagh, Bangor, Sunflowerfest)

England (Liverpool, Download Festival)

Ireland (Dublin, Cork)

Bands – Napoleon, Making Monsters, Carcer City

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We are one of few metalcore bands from our country. We bring a different vibe to our genre as we have a range of cultural influences and backgrounds based on where we’re from. We also have an incredibly energetic live show and we bring our passion to the stage and to our music.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

We would describe our sound as a contrast of a calm day by the still sea that in a split moment becomes a stormy night of high tides and trembling thunder.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

Headline tour of Ireland at the start of July

Festival slots throughout the summer

Where can we find your social media sites?
