UK Alt Rockers ALL EARS AVOW release their new EP ‘Edge Of This’ On 28th April. We had a talk with the band about their background….
What is the full band line-up, who plays what?
Claire Sutton – Vocals and guitar,
Jake Willcock – Guitar,
Joe Bishop – Bass,
Sean Ivens – Drums.
How and when did the band form?
The band formed from the remains of an old group. We’d met through performing on the same music scene in Swindon and then touring together around the UK in different projects. When one of the projects containing Claire, Joe and Sean disbanded in 2013, All Ears Avow was formed with Jake Willcock on extra guitar duties.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
We gelled pretty quickly as 3 of the 4 had played together before. Jake’s position in the group worked very quickly too and that was a big part of why we knew it was right for the 4 of us to form All Ears Avow. We were already friends, into the same music and with the same views on music and performance.
What are your musical influences?
There’s almost too many to mention as we try and remain open to all genres and it generally changes whenever a band releases a new record. Lately we’ve all been really big on bands such as Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco, The 1975. Anything considered rock but with a massive pop edge to it. More historically though bands such as Incubus, Skunk Anansie, No Doubt, Muse, Slipknot – a real mix of stuff.
Where have you played or toured?
We’ve played all over the UK – England, Wales and Scotland. We’ve also done a couple of one off acoustic shows in Germany (Berlin) and Spain (Barcelona). We’ve supported Courage My Love, Decade, Empire, Verses, The Computers and Milk Teeth to name a few. We played Underground Festival at Gloucester Guildhall last year alongside bands such as Blood Youth and Feed The Rhino plus a whole host of others.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
The attitude and raw energy of rock meets the hooks and infectiousness of pop. Big riffs and even bigger choruses.
Do you have a tour on the horizon?
Yes, in March we have a mini tour up North and another mini tour in April.
