Earth Divide are the Faroe Islands winners of this years Wacken Metal Battle. They play at Wacken along with all the other Metal Battle winners from all over the world to compete for the Over All Metal Battle Champion!
We are a five piece progressive metal band from the Faroe Islands. The band is comprised of two guitar players (Henning and Fríði), a drummer (Sigurd), a bass player (Gudmar) and a vocalist (Freddy).
And we are here to kick some ass!
How would you describe your sound?
I think most bands have a hard time putting into words the specifics of what their sound is and what genre they play.
In our case, I would say that we play something like rhythmic death melodic prog metal. But that doesn’t really answer anything. So I think that this question is better answered with another question. What do you think we sound like?.
How would you describe the metal music scene in your country? What has changed over the last few years?
All glory to the internet! Jokes aside, since social media and the coming of the digital age the music scene in the Faroe Islands truly exploded, and most notably the metal scene grew exponentially.
Also bearing in mind that the Faroe Islands have an extremely high standard of music in general, gives way for some truly talented metal bands. The scene is still in a budding stage, but in another couple of years, the scene will break out on it’s own internationally.
Why did you enter the WOA Metal Battle Competition?
Why would any band enter the Metal Battle? To play at Wacken, which is probably any red blooded metal head’s wet dream.
What was your initial reaction when you found out that you have won & you were playing at Wacken?
A dream come true in all aspects of the phrase! We were extremely excited to be given this chance to test our music in an international competition.
What was the best and worst part of the competition for you?
To be perfectly honest, there weren’t really any downsides to the event. The metal scene here is very close and all the bands know each other and are friends. So you never get the feeling that you are competing, rather it’s a gig with friends and an amazing party and good times are had by all.
Would you recommend the competition to other bands? Any hints/tips for bands that are looking to enter!
I would recommend the event to any up and coming metal band that wants constructive criticism and a chance to show people what they are worth.
As for tips, make sure all technical and practical things are working to 100% perfection, there is nothing worse than seeing an unprepared metal band perform. Other than that, make sure you exude confidence. If you think you own the stage, the crowd will believe it too!
A f**king explosion of sweat, metal and anger! We are planning to crack the earth at Wacken!
What has been the bands biggest achievement so far?
Probably releasing our EP and our Ferðin til Heljar tour with our friends from the Icelandic Angist.
Have you ever been to Wacken before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?
Most of us have been before. We’d have to say that first and foremost is the music, but also just the atmosphere of the festival. Everyone attending is there for the same reasons: Beer and metal!
And you feel this gigantic sense of camaraderie being there thousands upon thousands of fellow metal heads.
What is your opinion of the Wacken line-up.
The line-up is amazing, everything from W.A.S.P. to Devin Townsend Project, Slayer, The Ocean. It’s gonna be a hell of a good time!
Can you sum up Wacken in one sentence?
I can do you one better, I’ll sum it up in one word: WAAAACKEEEN!!!!
Any message you wish to pass on to the PM readers.
Come check us out at Wacken on the Headbanger Stage at 16:10, 31st of July!
It’ll be a good kind of kick in the teeth!
