Summary:

A good compilation - there are a few new versions of songs which will help encourage existing fans to buy the album, but for anyone who has heard some of their music and wants to hear more, this is a good starting point.

“The chronicles of Eden part 2” is as the name suggests, the follow up to the 2007 release “The chronicles of Eden”. That was a “Best of” featuring material from the first 5 years of the band. The new album is anothe “Best of”, this time featuring material from the past 15 years. It’s being released to mark the band’s 20th anniversary.

After Nightwish started to become well known in the late 90s a number of other bands sprung up producing symphonic metal with clean female vocals. Edenbridge were one of the early bands in the genre to come along after Nightwish and have been making music for 20 years now. In the early days there weren’t many bands in the genre but these days there are lots of bands producing similar sounding music but Edenbridge continue making the same type of music while bands such as Nightwish have experimented far more with their sound. Edenbridge will never hit the levels of popularity that Nightwish and some of the other bands have, but they do still have a strong following.

Listening to the album it is very good in many ways – the songs are well written and Sabine Edelsbacher has a beautiful voice, but the problem is that an hour after listening I couldnt remember a single song, and that’s after listening multiple times during the day. That’s the real issue – it’s good but without that killer edge that makes the music really stand out and stick in the memory.

If that hasn’t put you off, then this is a great album for anyone looking to try some Edenbridge since it’s got 26 tracks split over two CDs so gives you a really good sample of the songs you’re likely to hear them play in concert.
