Summary:

“Human Zoo” by Electric Six is definitely interesting concept rock album, displaying the huge variety of the cages with people - attention catching different songs, dynamic melodies and several memorable tracks, which easily stands out. Ironic pick but great for the 10th studio album.

If you ever feel little down, there is this American crazy rocker team, you could turn to. Just add Electric Six to your playlist . This band formed in 1996 and reached mainstream success with the “Danger! High Voltage” and “Gay Bar” singles in 2003. Ten years have passed since then and the band has released eight more studio albums, making it nine in total. This year, the band has released “Human Zoo”. Welcome to the zoo… of humans.Electric Six - Human Zoo

“Human Zoo” makes its own interpretation of so-called human zoos which existed in the 19th-20th centuries, giving a different, ironic look at it and humanity. The album offers great variety of songs to choose from according to the mood, type of human listening or simply the possibility to check them out individually. The first cage in the zoo – “Karate Lips”, starts with people chanting Electric Six name and then tells a story about the girls – fighters that is one hell of an eye/ear catching track for the entrance. After this the album goes slightly more aggressive with “It’s Horseshit!” bringing listener  punchy rhythms and an indecent chorus. The band gives more attention to devilish creatures as well in songs like “Satanic Wheels”, “I’m the Devil” and horror story-like “Good View of the Violence”. If you need some irony next to the violence, try “Gun Rights”, the altered old fashioned sound like vocals gives it a completely different atmosphere. Feeling hungry? Probably “I Need A Restaurant” will sort you out. At the very end of the Zoo there is the soothing “The Afterlife” with its lovely synth melody – a very symbolic and fulfilled moment after the rocky journey through the whole human zoo.

Reviewers pick: The amazingly energetic, memorable, catchy melody and singable chorus in “(Who the Hell Just) Call My Phone?” If I would have to choose the second pick, that most likely would be manic western soundtrack “Gun Rights”.

“Human Zoo” by Electric Six is definitely an interesting concept rock album, displaying the huge variety of humanity trapped in cages. Filled with attention catching different songs, dynamic melodies and several memorable tracks, it is an album that easily stands out in the band’s career.
