Full disclosure, I’m an Eye Licker groupie! I know the guys, love them all. I am, therefore, coming from a biased point of view. However, in my defence, my musical tastes are somewhat different from their offerings.
So, you may ask me, what is Eye Lickers new release like? The title may give a hint “Another Dose of Madness”. It is most definitely madness. Madness for the world being like it is, madness we have to live in it and madness rolling around in the guise of great music.
Track one, Those Who Plague, starts with some whispering into the mic. Probably best not to take up the advice although I love the sentiment. Then, oh my god, how tight are these guys. Drums, Bass and Guitar in perfect harmony. Time to get the pain killers out this is going to hurt my neck.
By song two, Bastardised, I think I’ve already figured this out. These songs are perfect mosh pit material. The maelstrom of crazy, being orchestrated by Eye Licker must surely be in the future of this band and I plan to be in the middle.
Next up Frankenstein, starts with a cool Bass solo that I can envision the monster of the aforementioned Doctor stomping to.
Although I could talk about how tight, aggressive and all around jumpy the music is I want to, at this point, mention the lyrics. A couple of months ago I did a Zoom interview with Rob were he talked me through the words and I was blown away. These are for the discerning listener to figure out, but I will tell you what, 40 Watt Havoc is not about Lance Armstrong’s true cycling power and his run in with the US postal service.
The last offering again starts with an amazing Bass intro, reminiscent of a certain Mr Harris. I’ve just realized I’m going to be walking round for the rest of the day shouting Hazmat Holiday. Quite apt for the times we live in.
OK I’m converted, once the current madness ends, I’ll be jumping into a mosh pit somewhere to get “Another Dose of Madness” Eye Licker style.
