Floorboards – Interview

UK Emo crew FLOORBOARDS are primed to make their mark on proceedings. The ferocious foursome have just dropped their explosive new single, Low. We asked the guys to introduce themselves:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Jay Mansfield – Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar

Jamie Cairney – Lead Guitar

Marcus Groome – Bass Guitar

Tom Harrison – Drums, Backing Vocals

How and when did the band form?

The band formed in my last year of sixth-form and we recruited our, then, bass player’s next door neighbour to play drums. Since then he and I are the only original members.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

The current lineup of floorboards started to establish ourselves properly towards the end of 2018. We had found a few shows outside of Cheltenham to play and the success of what followed motivated us to be more productive in playing more shows, recording new music and writing loads more

Who are your musical influences?

We take influence from the late 2000s/early 2010s emo and grunge revivals that were taking place. We all love bands like Title Fight, Basement and Superheaven as well as other music from all different eras and subcultures. Also, modern music is forever inspiring us to be innovative and move forward so I suppose all kinds of music influences.

Where did the name of the band come from?

The name of the band is a song by Real Friends. It’s since grown much more meaning individually to all of us and now it means lots of different things.

Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.

We’ve so far only played in the UK. We toured last year in middle and northern England and have played a few shows down south since then. We’ve shared a stage with Mallory Knox, Crooks, Milk Teeth, Such Gold, Black Peaks, Phoxjaw, Can’t Swim, Microwave and a whole host of others.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

I would sign the words “rock” and “roll” to them
