Summary:

Stunning audio quality, excellent picture quality, and of course a superbly talented band playing some amazing music - what more could you ask for in a live release?

Flying Colors is the band founded by former Dream Theatre drummer Mike Portnoy and Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse. Alongside them are Neal Morse (Spocks beard, Transatlantic), Dave LaRue (dixie Dregs), and Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev). So you’ve got a mix of musicians with backgrounds in classic hard rock, prog rock and pop.  The term supergroup is often abused but this is a band that truly deserves the title.  They’ve released two studio albums and done a short tour after each release.  They also released a live album from the first tour, and are now doing the same with the second tour.

On their latest tour, Flying Colors recorded and filmed their show at Z7 in Pratteln, Switxerland.  It was only a short tour – around 10 dates worldwide, so the DVD means that fans who weren’t lucky enough to get to one of the shows can still experience the band live.

Fans who did get to one of the gigs will know that the band’s sound live is superb, and they’ll be happy to know that the sound on this release is top quality – frankly if I hadn’t experienced the band live myself then I’d find it hard to believe that this was a live recording as the sound quality is so impressive.  It’s impressive enough on the CD, but Flying Colors are offering the fans more than just CD quality audio – Viewers can listen in 5.1-surround from the two best seats in the house: at the soundboard, or in the front row. All the show’s audio was processed with a new engineering system, developed specifically for live at the Z7, which creates stunning detail and separation.

As well as the 2CD/DVD version there is also a Blu-Ray version available.
