Foreigner/Acoustique cd + Win a copy.

You had to feel sorry for Journey on their last uk tour, there they where playing most of their (not very good in my opinion) latest record, and the support band, Foreigner beat them hands down every night. Foreigner just played all their hits none stop, it was a bit of a one sided race that Journey, no matter how good they where on the night, were never going to win.
And so we come to the latest Foreigner release, and surprise, surprise, it’s a greatest hits package, but at least with this one, you get something different, as all the hits are redone acoustically.
As well as including acoustic versions of some of their best known songs including “Juke box hero”, “Feels Like The First Time” and “Cold as ice”, there’s a previously unreleased song (The flame still burns), and a cover version of that great Elvis track “That’s all right”, as well as a brand new song, “Save me”, which isn’t done acoustically, for some strange reason.
A well written song will still appeal to people, even stripped down, as a lot of bands who have played the MTV unplugged sessions have found out, some even sound better.
While Foreigner are no doubt an out and out AOR rock band, their songs have transgressed rock, and have made it into the mainstream market, “I Want To Know What Love Is” springs easily to mind. Even my mum likes that song.
So im not going to bore you with a full review of this cd, you know what to expect, classic Foreigner records stripped back to the bare bones. The subtle use of violin, cello, flute and saxophone help these songs to sound fresh and the substitution of a violin solo instead of the guitar solo on “Juke box hero” is inspired.
There will be TWO versions of this record made available, make sure, if you’re a Foreigner fan, that you buy the 2 cd digipack, as it contains a dvd of Foreigner live in Chicago filmed this year.
