Fast-rising Pop Punkers FOUNTAIN ISLAND are climbing through the ranks aided by their super catchy new single, Pretty Little Nightmare – https://youtu.be/38usA_QRm7U . We caught up with the band to find out more:
What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?
The band is made up of Alex Porro (Vocals, guitar and production), and Ella Delamare (Drums).
How and when did the band form?
We were formed when I (Alex) started looking for a drummer to complete the project that I had worked on over lockdown with songs I had worked on with producer Joe Marsh. After posting an advert in 2021 that had a picture of; Travis Barker, Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud with the tag “looking for a drummer that can play like Travis Barker for a modern pop punk band. Is this you? Unless you’re Travis Barker then you’ve already got the job.”
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
As soon as Ella (drums) auditioned the band was complete. From that day on we were ready to play. A few months later we opened for Chapter and Verse to a sold out crowd The Grace in London.
Who are your musical influences?
Everything from old school emo and pop Punk like All American Rejects, Blink 182, The Starting line, My chemical Romance with early scene bands thrown in like The Maine, The Friday Night Boys, The Summer Set and All Time Low. Add some modern pop like MGK, Girlfriends, Waterparks and Blackbear, you come to Fountain Island.
Where did the name of the band come from?
The band was named even before any music was made. I’m (Alex) a giant All American Rejects fan and in the DVD for the album ‘When the world comes down’ Tyson Ritter quotes a dream he had ‘When I get to Fountain Island and St Peter is there at the Pearly gates. I hope he says “good job”)
How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?
I met Ella at our first audition for the band and we’ve been friends ever since. We have mutual friends who are in another Kent band called Coco and the Butterfields. So its a small world!
Are you friends from school or any family relations?
No but it feels like we’re old school friends already!
In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?
Having a keen eye for bigger picture writing and having pop sensibility. Taking cues from bands like Waterparks and My chemical romance where every release in on itself should encompass the entire bands being with a look and a colour scheme and a world built around it. Having genuine interaction and a focus on building a community. Also being a 2 piece but still bringing the vibe and feel of a big stadium show.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
Angsty energetic pop that makes you want to jump.
