Jeez, how have I not heard of Fractions before? A band that slipped past my eagle eyed radar who will be releasing a rather excellent single called Soundness Of Mind on January 29th 2019, free to download on all digital outlets featuring stunning artwork from Andy Pilkington at Very Metal Art.

At just over six minutes long it took a few spins to get my head around its complexity but first play brought to mind a mix of Tool, Linkin Park and Opeth. It opens with a melodically soothing vocal from Christopher Hare backed by gentle guitar lines and sparse drums as things take a curveball with hefty riffing as the song heads off into headbanging mode backed by a second heavier vocal and heavies up even more full pelt into a drum driven midsection.

A sense of calm returns briefly until those riffs bully in again for a mind blowingly heavily outro. I’ll look forward to hearing a lot more from this Leicester based band.

Fractions band line up :-

Christopher Hare – Vocals.

Chris Johnson – Guitar.

Lee Geary – Guitar.

Anthony Coghlan – Bass guitar.

Steve Humphreys – Drums.
