Hellfest 2014 Review Blog – Saturday 21st June

I arrived slightly late today as our coach had a oil problem then we hit a few traffic jams as we headed back to the festival so I went straight in to my first interview with the lovely Julien from Mars Red Sky. Click here to hear the interview.

I landed up doing my next interview with Frost from 1349 earlier than planned. Click here to hear the interview. After this I headed out to catch the Skid Rowremainder of Skid Row’s terrific set on Main Stage. I managed to catch ‘Get the Fuck Out’, and two of their most popular anthems ‘Slave to the Grind’ and ‘Youth Gone Wild‘, which had the crowd singing along and having a ball!

I headed back into VIP/Press to wait for Skid Row‘s Press Conference, where they updated us on the new EP and their plans etc. Click here to listen to it.

The second day under the blistering sunshine and the 30+°C temperatures are starting to take there toll on some of the festival goers and they arrived into the arena later than yesterday.

I went to watch Incantation and Skyclad over at the Altar & Temple tent however it was rammed so I was stood outside listening to Incantation tearing it up. After 2 and a half songs stood in the heat and about half a field of dust being churned up I had to head back to VIP to wash my face, rinse my eyes and grab some food and drink as it was getting hard to breath & see!!

I caught up with the Skyclad lot and we did the interview out in VIP in front of the garage set up that I liked to call my Ranch ;)  Click here to hear the interview.

DagobaI stayed on listening to Dagoba slay the crowd at Main Stage whilst waiting for my next Interview with Ludovic from Supuration Click here to hear the interview.

That was my interviews finished for today so I headed out to watch Status Quo seriously rocking the Hellfest crowd. I’ve seen them a few times before ages ago but this was one of their best shows I have ever seen from them and it was a well balanced set list. They were the talk of Hellfest!

I stayed on to watch Hatebreed, who have never disappointed me live. They had the crowd do their bidding and served up a powerful set. Highlights for me were ‘Defeatist‘ and their cover of Slayer’s ‘Ghosts of War’ plus ‘Honor Never Dies’.

Then Soulfly working the crowd superbly teasing out  and deplete every bit of their fans remaining energy . ‘Refuse/Resist ‘, ‘Back to the Primitive’ sounded amazing and ‘Roots Bloody Roots’ never fails to get teh crowd going. They finished off their set with ‘Jumpdafuckup / Eye for an Eye’.

I wander off to have another look around the Metal Market and seen more awesome stuff there, then grabbed a snack to eat which landed up to be a tatsy tomatoa and mozzerella salad, perfect snack in the heat!

Deep PurpleI caught the remainder of Deep Purple’s set and they were sounding great and then watched the start of Aerosmith before heading into my Helicopter tent with Neil’s camera & his bag so he could go get some shoots of their set without having to lug his gear through the packed arena. Even though I couldn’t see what they were up to on stage I could hear them clearly and they played a great set however I do still rate their set at Monsters of Rock in Derby way back in 1994 as a better set!! I headed off to the coach back to the hotel while they play their encore.
