Higher Ground – Interview

We caught up with energetic Londoners , who have just released their brand new single, Stupid Thoughts – https://youtu.be/eWBnPgmOUSw . We asked the band a few probing questions:

What is the band full line up? Who plays what?

Chloe Taylor – Lead Vocals;

Jack Heayn – Guitar;

Howard Martin – Guitar;

Dan Parrish – Bass;

Elle Steele – Drums and backing vocals .

How and when did the band form?

The band began forming in 2016, but went through a few differences and sound changes and thus have had trouble finding our second guitarist. Howard joined us in 2018 and we’ve all gelled really quickly (thank goodness).

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Since Howard joined us in 2018, our sound has really gone from strength to strength. To be honest it’s really shown us how important the right members are to a band, as we’ve played with some really talented people in the past, but it’s never felt right before now!

Who are your musical influences?

The list goes on! But as a band we really love the kind of sound you get from bands like ADTR, Panic!, Tonight Alive, Thrice, Blink, Pierce the Veil, Funeral for a Friend – to cut it quite short.

How far back does your history with each other extend?

Elle and Dan were previously in a band together called State of the Art. The rest of us have all met via the magic of social media and the wonder of “Join my band”.

Where have you played or toured?

We’re a baby band at the moment in that sense, we’ve done a couple of day long festivals, both at The Engine Rooms in bow, and some other great venues in London, and we’ve played with some great smaller bands like Jack the Envious and Priests to Pilots, but nobody big as yet. We’re hoping that’s in our future though!

In your opinion, how is your band different than all the other bands out there?

We don’t sound like any other band, and we have a lot of differentiation between our songs too, while keeping our overall Higher Ground brand on every song. There’s no way you could get confused between any two of our songs. We also have two female members, which is pretty cool!
