ICANTDIE – Interview

There is no stopping UK post-hardcorers ICANTDIE. The trio havejust released a new video for the single, Counter, featuring Sean Smith – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqZFOKYW01w . We had a virtual chat with the guys to find out more:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Kyle David Smith – Lead Vocals + Guitar

Sam Bennett – Bass and Vocals

Adam Kerslake – Drums and Percussion

How and when did the band form?

Band formed in 2016 with Kyle David Smith as a Bedroom Demo artist. The Full line up was completed in 2018.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Both members that joined were aware of the music Kyle was making for this project, it was then the case of getting both members to learn the standard set to start gigging as soon as possible. We noticed the solidifying when we realised that both tasks came easy to us as a group. Then it was just a case of writing new material.

Who are your musical influences?

Everytime I Die, Muse, Billy talent, Biffy Clyro, Jamie Lenman, The Chariot, 68, Dillinger Escape Plan, Type o Negative, System Of A Down

Where did the name of the band come from?

When the project was started Kyle started being inspired by seeing bands on festival line ups that you have never heard of and were very random. So kyle wanted to come up with a really unorthodox name that would stand out on such a line up. Kyle watched an episode of South park where the character Kenny spoke and said “I Cant Die”. This then got Kyle putting it as one word and the rest is history. Over time we also see the name as an undying love for music, but the former we feel is a better story.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

We’re lucky to have known each other or have known each other through friends for a long time. Pretty much started through college for Kyle and started to make friends through the music scene and through gigs. Which is pretty much the same story for anyone in a band.

Where have you played or toured?

Icantdie have since played gigs in the England and Wales with the likes of Haggard Cat, The Hell, Raiders, And so I watch you from afar, As Everything Unfolds and Thiscityisours. Icantdie continue to push further out and play more countries.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We’re honest, energetic, we try our best to put on a good show and get the crowd going. We don’t define ourselves by how many people we bring, we define ourselves through our professionalism, our sound, our identity and the fact that we enjoy music as much as the next, maybe more than.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Creepy yet aggressive, angry yet emotional, cynical yet humorous, reckless yet well constructed.
