Summary:

Combining the high-energy and clout of a boisterous-eighties Whitesnake, and the power and outer worldliness of an early-seventies Deep Purple, this is a band that's definitely moving in the right direction, and adding a fresh, rejuvenated component to the British Hard Rock scene that’s difficult to come across in the present-day.

Inglorious’ is the self-titled debut album from the rising Hard-Rock band, INGLORIOUS, set for release on Friday 19th February 2016.

In their short time together, the band have already begun to make a name for themselves, with upcoming plans to support The Winery Dogs on their European Tour in January and February, before embarking on an 8-date UK album launch tour ahead of the release of the 11-track self-titled ‘Inglorious’ album exactly two years after their formation.

Brian May described these guys pretty well when he dubbed the band a “potent young Deep Purple” (if you haven’t heard it already, I highly recommend checking out the INGLORIOUS cover of ‘Burn’ HERE).

Upon first hearing that statement, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Many bands set out to bring back the sound of the 1970s with the expectation that it can be nothing but terrific, based solely on rehashing that same primal sound, but it takes so much more than that. INGLORIOUS were a breath of fresh air – they built on all the classic components we know and love, and have managed to make it uniquely brilliant at the same time.

Comparable to the high-energy and clout of a boisterous-eighties Whitesnake, and the power and outer worldliness of an early-seventies Deep Purple, INGLORIOUS have a hell of a lot of intensity and natural presence within their music, which shines throughout the album.

The opening track, Until I Die, is the perfect example of this. The track eases in to the resonating sound of an organ and light patter of symbols, quite similar in style to the track “Space Truckin'”, taken from Deep Purples album ‘Machine Head’.

As the tempo increases, my interest remained un-peaked, as it retained it’s place as a Deep Purple stand in, until… all of a sudden, a momentary pause entering into an awesome bellowing guitar riff, bridging the sound of old and new, and rolling out the red carpet for the soaring vocals of frontman, Nathan James.

Holy Water’ is one of my favourite tracks on the album – powerful bluesy riffs and vocals, building start to finish, with tremendous soulful stylings which will blow your socks off during the guitar solo followed by the echoing, full force chorus towards the end.

‘Girl Got A Gun’ is a seriously progressive track, again, made greater by the big guitar riffs and their awesome presence alongside the strong, gritty bass sound. I found a familiarity with this song and ‘Empty City’ by Thunder, which also contains great control without any compromise, and retains its Hard Rock demeanour within a melodic track.

INGLORIOUS are a rarity in the sense that they manage to sound so genuine and uncut, I can imagine they can put on one hell of a show. The band seem to pride themselves on this achievement, with Nathan stating, “for so long people have been hiding mistakes, singers using auto tune to make them sound perfect, double tracking to make it sound bigger and using click to play in time. There is none of that on this album”.

Although each member of the band brings in their own history of influences and musical experience, it’s fair to say they’re all working towards the same ambition of bringing back the sound from the early-eras of Hard Rock when music was pure, everything was new and innovative, and the Greats were so flawless, they’ve held their legendary status decade after decade.

This is a band that’s definitely moving in the right direction, and adding a fresh, rejuvenated component to the British Hard Rock scene that’s difficult to come across in the present-day.
