Interview with Steve Surch and Steve Bell from Disarm Goliath

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us.
No problem, thanks for having us.

For people who haven’t heard about you how would you describe the band?
SB: Ear piercing vocals, thundering bass, raging guitar and pounding drums

How did you form and what made you chose the band name?
SS: I always wanted to start a band that was influenced by the ‘Classic‘ metal
Bands like Priest, Maiden and Sabbath but at the time (back in the 90s) metal was
going through a rough patch so it was tough going and we had a lot of line up changes
In the early days but i wasn’t about to start playing rap metal, grunge or hardcore..
The band name came from how we felt at the time, going against the grain and overcoming the odds was what we thought we were doing so ‘Disarm Goliath’
fitted perfectly. We used to get laughed at a lot when we first started playing live.

For those that have not seen you play live, how would you describe your shows?
SS: Passionate and energetic.

Over the years you must have had some great experiences. Do any stand out particularly?
SB: The Blaze Bayley tour was awesome, also supporting the legendary white wizard…
SS: We were also lucky enough to do some shows in the US (2004) which was a great
Experience and a lot of fun.

Are there any embarrassing tour incidents?
SB: Most of these belong to Anthony on the latest tour… witnessing him puke on a cash machine was pretty funny…
What is your favourite type of live show and why – festival, large venue or small venue?
SB: As long as there are people listening to us and enjoying what we are doing, any show is good…

How did the last tour go?
SB : The tour was awesome, we made a lot of new fans and friends, and was a great chance to play some new venues in cities we had never played before…

What bands and artists have influenced you?
SB: Priest, Maiden, Dio, Anthrax, Grim Reaper, Deadly Blessings.
SS: Priest, Maiden, Dio, Anthrax, Wasp, Saxon and M.Crue.

So what kind of music do you listen to in your spare time?
SB: Same as above

Which do you prefer and why – CD or legal mp3 downloads?
SB: Downloads are great for getting music fast and anytime you want it, but then you sometimes miss out on some great artwork and lyrics so I’d say cd is better.

What was the last album you bought?
SB: The last major one I bought was Anthrax – Worship Music, great album!
SS: I think the last cd I bought was by Sixx:AM but I have recently downloaded
Some Angelwitch to my I-pod.

Are there any bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
SS: We have played with some good bands on the underground scene so look out for..
Stuka Squadron, Dark Forest, Wraith and Point Blank Fury.

What does 2012 hold in store for you?
SB: Album launched, more gigs, more mayhem…

Have you got any bad habits?
SB: I have a bad habit of singing along to songs I don’t know the words to and also screaming at the top of my lungs and deafening people while in the car…

Have you got any guilty pleasures?
SB; The darkness
SS: I love Stryper

What are you guys do in your spare time when you’re on the road?
SB: Eat, sleep, drive, drink (when not driving of course)…
SS: and text..

Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
SB: You are all great!
SS: See ya soon
