Joe Bonamassa – Time Clocks (single)

To these ears Joe Bonamassa transcends from just being a guitar hero into a storyteller with a lead vocal to match on his latest single ‘Time Clocks’, the title track of the album of the same name due to be released on October 29th 2021.

It’s the third single taken from it as seven minutes fly by on uplifting but also heartbreaking emotions akin to Bat Out Of Hell era Meatloaf, such is its power to suck you in and let you go when it’s finished with you. Its supreme drama begins with a full on band fuelled intro so I was expecting a hard hitting rocker but it eases into quaint but powerful balladry.

Joe delivers a lead vocal with total conviction in the verses but totally blew my mind in overwhelming choruses of “And the rain soaking through my coat, about to capsize my boat. I push it along away from the docks, I was never a good puncher of time clocks”. A real wow moment which makes more sense in the video at the end of this review and this is only three minutes into the song!

A snare driven midsection is an overwhelming piece as Joe hits some high pitched vocal notes that’s followed by some clinical guitar work and that chorus returns once more to melt your heart as this beautiful song closes sedately to make you press repeat play again and again.
