Summary:

Year Of the Tiger by Josh Todd & The Conflict is traditional Rock and Roll with just about the right twist to keep it interesting. A definite worthwhile listen for those who appreciate their metal Los Angeles style.

Year Of The Tiger is the new album from Buckcherry front man Josh Todd under the guise of Josh Todd & The Conflict.  Joining Josh are the Los Angeles trio of Steve Dacanay, Sean Winchester and Gregg Cash.  This album is rock and roll, hardcore, a bit punk but overall a great listen from start to finish.  Enough different genres covered to please almost everyone.

Josh Todd & The Conflict – Year Of The Tiger
The title track Year Of The Tiger kicks us off and is full on Josh at his shouty best.  Probably one of the weaker songs on the album but the following track Inside is like a second start and we are off and running for sure with great ripping riffs but with enough leeway to hear Josh along with the drums and bass which are very prominent.
Fucked Up provides a great drunken sing along opportunity but for all the swearing provided this is again a great slab of rock that ticks the boxes in terms of chorus, guitar solo etc.
Rain is a much slower number and the inevitable Josh/Axel comparisons cannot be helped.  But that is definitely a good thing here.
Track 5 Good Enough is another slower track which when taken as a stand-alone song is as the title says Good Enough.  However, maybe the two slower numbers back to back don’t quite fit the overall mood of the album.
The Conflict, The Story Of My Life and Erotic City are all full on rock with all the boxes ticked.  Don’t get me wrong this is not just “by the numbers” rock, these are traditional rock songs but produced to a high quality and after several listens kind of grow on you.  You definitely get the feeling these need to be revisited from time to time.
The album finishes with Atomic which has a slight groove feel to it and similar to Rain and Good Enough is probably a bit out of place in its overall position on the album.
Josh Todd & the Conflict have definitely relied heavily on their musical background to feed into this album.  What they have done is mixed different genres together to produce an album that has several stand out tracks, Fucked Up in particular has that raw aggression which we can all relate to at times.  I still can’t help the feeling there is more to come from Josh in the future.
