Kilkovec talk about their new EP and video…..

UK Alt-rockers Kilkovec throw down a real game changer, as they let loose their stunning new EP Plunge on Friday 27th January. Before then, we sat them down for a chat….

What is the full band lineup, who plays what?

kilkovec-online-promo-shotDan – Guitar and Mouth Noise,

Matt – Bass and Mouth Noise,

Tom – Drum Noise.

How and when did the band form?

We originally formed back in college with a few friends as a metal project with 3 guitarists . After that didn’t really get going Dan and Matt started jamming a project separately around the same kind of sound. After writing 2 songs and running out of Ideas we decided to just make rock music we thought sounded good. We looked at a lot of bands we liked and started playing similar sounds until we had a set together.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

We were an actual band when we finally found our first drummer back in 2012 and actually started gigging. However, since then we’ve switched drummers twice but luckily Tom is here to stay. I’d say since then is when we really started to solidify as a band, it’s around that time we released ‘Sick of This’ and started getting real notice from music press. We also first played the Joiners in Southampton for the first time around the same time and you’re not a real band in the UK till you get to play there obviously!

What are your musical influences?

We come from a wide range of influences, looking at what we were into before it all kicked off it’s kinda strange to think we met somewhere in the middle. I was rooted in the strange combination of Pop Punk and Math, Matt was quite into metal in his youth and Tom was very much into 00s indie. Nowadays we’re still quite to our own but more consistent. We respect a lot of bands that are all about their live performance as that’s the main reason we do this. To name a few we’re really into Brand New, Letlive, Lower than Atlantis (the older stuff), Marmozets.

Where have you played or toured?

We’ve played up and down the UK but we’ve our sites set on Europe and maybe even the rest of the world just as soon as we figure that out. We’ve played a few gigs with our pals in Yearbook a few times as well as supported Seething Akira, Flood of Red, Bad Sign, Press to Meco and most recently Black Foxxes. The biggest band we’ve played with is probably The Red Jumpsuit Aparatus, theres an interesting review of that night somewhere on the internet (however the reviewer managed to miss our set).

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

I think with our influences combining as they have we’ve formed something that’s familiar but  unique in our sound. There’s plenty of bands that are infectious and plenty of bands that are energetic but I feel that we’re delivering ourselves in our music and in fear of sounding like absolute vintage mature cheddar I feel together no one is like us.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Energetic, Cathartic, Raw
