Summary:

'A Stab in the Heart of Christ' by Killgasm is a almost classics raw black metal example with a slight touch of grindcore. If you are more grindcore than black metal fan, this album might be a disappointment for you.

This year looks quite productive and May is no exception. Yet another band from sunny California, USA, Killgasm, are already releasing their second full-length album. I must admit, I was intrigued by the name as it sounds quite grindcore like.  When I saw the title of the album, my impressions of grindcore started fading away.

Killgasm say they play ‘filthy and perverted blackened grindcore terrorism against the entire human race’.  Oh well, probably everything is true, except the grindcore part. At least in the album,  A Stab in the Heart of Christ’ the title suggests more raw black metal than grindcore or anything else. Yes, there are a few tracks consisting of those growly vocals but that is not the dominant vocal type on the album. Granted, there’s a nicely done guitar solo in the title track of the album that took me by surprise.  The album is perhaps too short for a black metal album and too long for a grindcore album (bearing in mind the amount of tracks). That’s probably where the two genres meet up.
