With an epic thunderous roar, a hulking metal Mammoth sets its sights and aims its tusks at Brighton UK. Returning to wage sonic destruction, Mammothfest is back in 2014.
Coming to The Green Door Store on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August, Mammothfest is bringing some of the heaviest musical megaliths with it. Today’s initial announcement sees young power thrash masters Savage Messiah take the headline spot on Saturday, with the crushing death of Martyr Defiled taking the top on Sunday. They are joined by the depraved Meta-stasis and the nihilistic Ingested respectively – and there are still 18 more purely awesome bands to be announced.
To celebrate this proclamation of bestial doom, the festival is offering a reduced ticket price for a very limited time only. ‘Early-Mammothfest’ tickets are now on sale at just £15 for a pass to both incredible days. The price is due to rise on announcement of the next set of acts in about a week’s time.
Savage Messiah, signed to Earache Records, have just released an acclaimed new album entitled ‘The Fateful Dark’. They have toured with the likes of Soulfly, Havok and Evile. Leaders of the NNWOBHM – the New, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal – their sound joins the harsh and hard thrash of the likes of Anthrax or Exodus with the British power element akin to Judas Priest or Iron Maiden. Frontman Dave Silver:
“We’re really excited to announce that we’ll be headlining this years Mammothfest! This will represent our first ever festival headlining set on English soil, and we shall be pulling out all the stops to make this an extra special event! Make sure you get tickets early and support UK heavy metal, and lets make this one to remember! We’ll see you in the pit!!! \m/”
Hailing from Lincoln, Martyr Defiled are currently number 2 on ITunes metal with their latest album ‘No Hope, No Morality’ – a crushing opus that translates to the stage like 1000 Mammoths in a mosh-pit. Having toured with The Black Dahlia Murder, Despised Icon and All Shall Perish, these guys know how to destroy a venue or ten, and are the perfect band to close this weekend.
As the name suggests, Ingested are gut-wrenching. This young 5 piece are flying the chainsaw for intense British death metal.
Finally, Meta-stasis take sickness to a whole new level, mixing vomit inducing death and jungle sounds with grotesque visuals to put on a real twisted show. Looking ahead to the event, their vocalist Jeremy had this to say:
“It was a total honour to play Mammothfest in 2010 with Ted Maul as it will be to play in 2014 with the depraved Meta-stasis. Brighton: wake the fuck up!!
Yes, it has been 4 years since the initial inception Mammothfest. 2010 saw Entombed, Malefice, Sylosis and Orange Goblin to name a few take the stage in an attempt to create a lasting event for Brighton’s metal calendar. The Mammoth’s hibernation over the last 4 years, caused in the aftermath of that first instalment, has enabled lessons to be learned, and plans to be re-made in order to ensure the events annual survival. As with so much in this day and age, finances and the learning-curve meant that it was almost death for the gargantuan creature – but, in reality, it is not dead and un-defeated – instead now on the stampede! Organiser Steve Dickson commented on the first Mammothfest “I completely under estimated just how “Mammoth” a task this would be first time round. It literally nearly killed me”
But he is un-deterred – the event is done for the love of metal, and for the love of the scene that Brighton is home to “The interest in Mammothfest was significant from the moment I announced this years event. I have had so many messages of support and appreciation. I want to again shine a light on the amazing local bands while bringing the best bands in the world to Brighton”.
No wound was deep enough to kill this beast – The Mammoth Lives.
