Matter Of Mind Interview

Up and coming rock crew MATTER OF MIND have set loose their firecracker of a video Far Too Wrong (https://youtu.be/2N7VrWDxZG8) . With comparisons to Biffy Clyro and The Foo Fighters, Matter Of Mind are sure to rise. We sat down for a talk about their beginnings and more:

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?

Jordan Lambert: vocals and rhythm guitar, Ash Meadowcroft : Lead guitar,

Rob Bramwell: bass, Connor McQue: drums and backing vocals

How and when did the band form?

We started playing music in school, we would get together after school and at lunch time and just play. Initially it was just covers, but we started actually writing our own music at around the age of 14.

We’re from Stockport, which is just outside of Manchester. Stockport has been starting to gain its own music scene recently, with some great bands coming out of it which is a big inspiration in itself. That and it’s got its own brewery, which is always a winner. Good beer, good music.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

We started to take things more seriously about two years ago. We had a switch up with drummers and that’s when things really started to fall into place, we started playing a lot more and really started to become more passionate with what we were/are doing.

What are your musical influences?

Individually, we all bring our own influences to the table. J’s into Rock music mainly, but will listen to almost anything. Robs into Classic rock and Grunge, Connor is into all sorts, but tends to lean more towards Indie and music from the 60’s. Ash will listen to anything with too many chords in it, but also likes his guitar bands. Generally, however, we do all love rock and guitar bands such as Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Basement etc. but we take influences from many music genres.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend? are you friends from school or any family relations?

We’re all mates from high school. We’re all massive music fans, listening and playing music has always been a large part of our friendships with each other, so the band just came naturally from this.

Where have you played or toured?

So far we’ve mainly gigged in Manchester, and here and there in Sheffield. We‘ve played with The Blinders, Fairchild, Dantevilles, etc. We played Clint Boon’s Set 2 Go Live after being featured on his podcast, which was great.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We strive to try and be unique and interesting. Our music is a collaboration of all of our individual personalities, we aim to play music that we would like to hear ourselves.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Loud guitars and catchy hooks.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

We don’t have a tour as of yet, but we are playing two shows for our official single launch starts on the 4th and 5th of March with No Hot Ashes at Jimmy’s bar in Manchester. We have more shows coming up also which are yet to be announced.
