METAL TO THE MASSES ROUND 1 HEAT 3

METAL TO THE MASSES ROUND 1 HEAT 3
When? Thursday 14th April
Where? Yardbirds Grimsby
Who? Revocation, Gisguard, Call to Rise
The follow up from the previous heat proved to be the tightest heat yet, having two bands already pulled out leaving the three above still having to fight for that slot at the holy grounds of Bloodstock!
The first to hit the stage was Revocation with their hardcore vocals and sounds similar to those from Annotations of an Autopsy. They showed potential with their song writing and sounds, and proved to have what it takes to play BOA.
Mixed feedback:  from the audience as many where annoyed because it took them nearly an hour and half to get on stage as they were late due to transport difficulties, a quote from one member of the audience said “All the songs sound the same, they aren’t original enough”, others disagreed “Yeah I’d definitely go see them, their awesome”.

The second was local band Gisguard, although in my thoughts this band isn’t BOA material they received a good reception as they kicked in the synthesizers and visually it looked impressive with a lighting display of strobes fitted to the beat of their music. This band was difficult to compare to any other as they were completely original, later that night in a conversation with the lead singer she said “We don’t want to be like everyone else, we want our own sound and are own identity”. Again mixed feedback was from the audience, good “They are original and have a good strong vocalist”, bad “It sounds like a CD has jammed and it keeps repeating its self”.

Last and by no means least was fellow local band Call to Rise, again these also received good feedback and by this time I was unsure if the good feedback was because they were local and people knew them. They brought my suspicions to a halt when they kicked into play and the good reception continued throughout the set. They even managed to get an encore! The band sound similar to All that Remains with the vocals of Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach. After a brief chat with the bassist he agreed with my query “I love all that remains, I’m pretty pleased that you have picked that up in our sounds”, of course mixed feedback came from the audience, good “ They are original with a familiar sense which is good, they have a good set list of different sounding songs too so you haven’t got the same rhythm ringing in your ears through out the set and they also look good too”, bad “They are good, but not my cup of tea, and I don’t think they will make it on a stage like Bloodstocks”.
