Michael Schenker ‘Temple of Rock’ live in Europe dvd

Having had the privilege of watching Michael Schenker on the ‘Temple of Rock’ tour earlier this year, I knew exactly what to expect, and this live dvd coving the tour doesn’t disappoint.
The concert footage was recorded in Tilberg, The Netherlands in May of this year, and also at the High Voltage Festival in London back in 2011.
So what do we get ? Well as usual there are various formats each offering more or less the same, either as a cd version or dvd, with only the limited edition four disc set offering anything extra.
The Blu-ray version I have for review contains both the above shows, plus a bonus footage from before the show, in Tilberg, all presented in glorious DTS HD sound.
Michael is on top form here, equally on par with his UFO days, and I think he even sounds better than the now legendary ‘One Night at Budokan’ live album
The choice of songs is equally important, and I think this current set list is the best to date, spanning the great guitarist career, covering all this classics yet giving them a new lease of life. Tracks like ‘Armed and Read’, ‘Another piece of meat’ still sound as fresh today as when they were originally released many many years ago.
The High Voltage footage while short, is a worthy addition to this release, as it features special guest apperaences by Rudolf Schenker, Jeff Scott Soto and Pete Way. This lot tear the stage apart playing a blinding version of Doctor Doctor.
The camera work is superb, giving equal time to the other members of the band, yet always cutting back to focus on Michaels fretwork.
This is a first class release charting the comeback of one of rocks great guitarist’s.
I can’t fault this, 10/10 for a brilliant live dvd, if this doesn’t get your head banging, you’re already dead.
