Michael Monroe – The Garage Glasgow -15/04/2011 (Gig)

I have never experienced Mr M live before so tonight I was looking forward to seeing him along with his current band members Wildhearts frontman Ginger, ex-New York Doll Steve Conte on guitar, former Hanoi Rocks bass player Sam Yaffa and drummer Karl Rosqvist. I had heard great reports from my friends that had seen them already on this tour so were hoping they would live up to the reports!
Mike Monroe had played a secret gig in the afternoon and tickets had been given out by Rock Radio. I never got one however folk I know that had got tickets said it was amazing and I would have a superb time that night!

I arrived and New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack where already on stage so I headed down the front. I had a giggle at the stage props & the bassist! He had on a full Indian Headdress. It def made a change from the usual rockers outfit! They sounded & played well however it was just a basic performance that failed to win over the crowd.
Voodoo Six was up next and wow what a difference! They played a powerful tight rockin set. These guys had us clapping and jumping along with their first song. The full set was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed.
I had never seen Voodoo Six before and I recommend you check these guys out if you don’t know already know who they are!

The tension and excitement builds as we wait for the Mike Monroe band to grace us with their presence! I turned round and looked back at the crowd and the place was packed.

As the band came on the crowd went wild with screaming and cheering. Michael raced up the stairs and on to the stage. This set the pace for the full night. They launched straight into “Trick Of The Wrist”and Michael with his saxophone running around the stage. Then they played “Got Blood?” all of us down the front were having a great time singing along

.
As the played through their set Michaels on stage antics amused us with all his rock poses, jumping, high kicks & of course the splits!! Unfortunately Michael couldn’t do his normal climbing about as the PA is flown in the Garage! So instead he kept leaping over to the steps on the barrier and then balancing on top of the barrier with the crowds help a few times.

Ginger & Steve’s guitar poses were great to watch as well. There was never a dull moment at tonight’s gig.
They finished up the main set with “Dead, Jail or Rock N’ Roll” and came back on for encore with “I Wanna Be Loved” & “Life Gets You Dirty“. They also fitted in a wee guitar only cover of Auld Lang Syne in between the songs.
For the final song “Blitzkrieg Pop“. Michael passes the mike over to Ginger and Michael decides to do a bit of drumming! This was unexpected. It worked really well Mike’s a good drummer and of course we know that Ginger can sing. It was a great end to the night.

Tonight’s setlist comprised of a variety of Hanoi Rocks, Demolition 23, old and new solo material. It was a great mix.
