Ireland’s doom metal soothsayers, MOURNING BELOVETH, have today unleashed their sixth album, Rust & Bone, on the world. The album is out now via Ván Records.
The band commented:
“Having lived with Rust & Bone for a few months now we are delighted that it is finally “officially” out there!
The reactions from fans we’ve met while on tour last December when we road tested some of the new songs has been phenomenal. Whenever you colour outside the lines there is always a sense of adventure, an anxious energy; with the official release ofRust & Bone, we view today as not as a culmination, but rather a beginning.
“A huge amount of thanks and respect goes out to the people behind us on this new leg of our voyage – especially Sven and Ván Records, and everyone who has so supported us by buying Rust & Bone.
“Our energies now are back in the rehearsal room where we are getting our set list together for our upcoming shows.
See you at the bar.”
An edited section of music from the track Godether, taken from Rust & Bone, can be heard online now.
Rust & Bone marks a new chapter in the MOURNING BELOVETH tale – transitional, elemental, representing life and decay, the battle between the organic, and the industrial. Forged from rust and bone over nine months and recorded at Skyhammer Studios in six days.
The resulting body of work is – on paper at least – five tracks of music, however, the album is designed to be listened to as one continuous, living piece of music. Having found their stride, emboldened, MOURNING BELOVETH have pushed their own boundaries; utilising a hand crafted acoustic guitar that makes it’s presence felt throughout, climaxing in the mournful, yet hauntingly beautiful album closer A Terrible Beauty Is Born, they have also found a comfortable place with their choice of lyrics – both their own, and those borrowed from the likes of Yeats and Beckett.
With Rust & Bone, MOURNING BELOVETH have created something that they’re proud to call Irish music; representing their roots, torn from the stomach of the land and forged in the stars of their ideal. It’s an album that cannot be defined as doom or death but simply as Mourning Beloveth.
In their 23 year history, MOURNING BELOVETH have now notched up six albums, and Rust & Bone has already been collecting critical acclaim: Zero Tolerance magazine describe it as a “beautifully balanced, perfectly structured album”, and The Sleeping Shaman note that it’s “a five-song lesson in how to partner the cloying atmospheres of classic doom-death and wistful acoustic folk music.” Meanwhile, Metal Hammer describe the album as their “most ambitious and diverse offering to date”.
Rust & Bone is out now via Ván Records and available to order from the Ván Webstore.
