No Sinner – Borderline, London – 25th October 2016

No Sinner

Tonight’s support came from Sheffield based Bang Bang Romeo.  They’re fronted by Anastasia Walker, a singer with a nice powerful voice which suits their vintage rock sound.  It’s a good set and goes down well with the crowd, getting the night off to a good start.

Next it was time for No Sinner.  The band takes it’s name from Singer Colleen Rennison (No sinner is her surname spelt backwards).  She’s the focal point of the band with a stunning voice – I’d rate her as one of the best female blues singers around (other than Beth Hart), and their debut album was a fantastic introduction to the band. Now they’ve released their second album, “Old habits die hard”, they’re on tour.  Sadly London is the only UK date – hopefully they’ll be back again soon.

The band take to the stage and start playing before Colleen comes out and joins them in time to start the vocals.  The band are in good form and look to be enjoying themselves and Colleen is sounding superb as they play a set with songs from both their albums including the cover of the classic “Work song” – a song that has been covered by countless artists including Nina Simone, but No Sinner’s version stands up wel against any of the other versions I’ve heard.

They’re a great live band, and if you’re a fan of Beth Hart then I can highly recommend No Sinner as a band you’re likely to enjoy.
