Summary:

Nunslaughter means business on their new album release. It's called "Red Is The Color Of Ripping Death". Nunslaughter has crafted a very fine album of all thrills, and no spills, ear raping filth. I love it!

Now here is a name you *should* have heard of if you enjoy filthy, raw, black metal. And trust me Nunslaughter mean business on their new album release. It’s called “Red Is The Color Of Ripping Death” so if you are expecting ballads and progressive stuff, I can guarantee this is not for you.

For those who do not know, Nunslaughter is one of the most prolific black metal bands out there. In fact, they are pretty much the genre’s version of Agathocles, with countless EPs, splits and live albums.

Not so prolific….

Yeah, so despite having put out umpteen other releases since their inception in 1987, Nunslaughter has not been as prolific with actual albums. In fact, this is only Nunslaughter’s 5th full length. The last full-length release “Angelic Dread” was released back in 2014, but they have not been idle in between! In fact, this new album will be their FOURTH release of 2021..

On to the music then

Nunslaughter plays black metal in a very raw and punked upstate, that the band refer to as “Devil Music”. And right from the word go, the opening track “Murmur” smacks you around the head. With a small slice of lemon…. wrapped around a gold brick!! WHAM!

The pace does not let up throughout these 14 tracks, with only three tracks clocking in at over 3 minutes. These three being the title track, “Dead In Ten”, and “Casket Lid Creaks”. The final track “Below The Cloven Hoof” just scrapes 53 seconds… Check out the video for it here: https://youtu.be/dcOIPXv2ciA

The riffs throughout are simple, but very enjoyable, and will be sure to get the feet tapping and head bobbing. Also, for such a raw band, this album is very well produced. Every instrument can be heard clearly, unlike others of a similar ilk, that seem to be recorded on a wet bog roll. Vocals as to be expected, are raw and raspy, but never straying into Dani Filthesque screams!

Final words

Overall, this is a very fine offering. It’s rare to get a Black Metal release that is as raw and in your face, that has such good production values. I enjoyed every minute of its 14 songs, and 35 minutes of playing time. And to be honest, I played it twice more for good effect!

There is very little to dislike about this album. Nunslaughter has crafted a very fine album of all thrills, and no spills, ear raping filth. I love it!
