Dutch rockers ¡Pendejo! launch their version of Black Sabbath’s The Wizard. The band chose to translate the original lyrics into Spanish and named their version El Mago. The new single is available on all streaming platforms. El Mago is the second track of the yet unreleased EP Toma, which will include five covers in total. In June, ¡Pendejo! already released Tuyo as their first single and music video from their upcoming EP. |
The 50 Years Old Wizard Was it intentional to cover The Wizard 50 years after it’s original release in 1970? According to El Pastuso, this was just a happy coincidence. “The idea to cover The Wizard was born after a badly visited ¡Pendejo! show in Cologne, about a year ago. We were the only ones left, the barkeeper entrusted us with the key and the fridge, so everything was okay by that point. Someone had his phone on shuffle, and it was playing The Wizard, which was warmly welcome after having to endure a Supertramp song, a John Mayer song, and if I am not mistaken, even an Abba song. And we obviously had a heated discussion about how horrible versus brilliant those bands are. So you can imagine how The Wizard appearing made everyone happy. Yeah, I still have that stuff etched in my memory… and no, I won’t reveal who’s phone it was. Anyway, we figured out that the horns might do the harmonica parts, and being intoxicated, we were all getting excited to cover this one. Next morning, the idea still sounded pretty good.” |
¡PENDEJO! is a heavy rock band from The Netherlands, founded by two cousins with a history in Latin America. Digging into their latino roots they started blending heavy riffage, right-in-your-face lyrics in urban Spanish and to top it all off, a screaming trumpet. Leaving their skid marks in the underground scene throughout Europe and Latin America and sharing stages with influential heavyweights like MONSTER MAGNET, FU MANCHU, KARMA TO BURN, MONDO GENERATOR and HELMET, the band puts on a show for anyone who is not afraid to be grabbed by the cojones and to be thrown into a spicy puddle of chili con carne. In 2019 !PENDEJO! was touring in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Germany and Holland, partly with their brothers in arms from Banda de la Muerte. Shortly after their Swiss-German tour in January 2020, just before the Corona-shit hit the world, the band recorded five covers, from which Tuyo and El Mago have been released so far. |
