It’s a freezing cold afternoon in November which reflects the darkness falling across the metal community currently with the horrific tragedy and loss, with recent events weighing heavily on our hearts. I know a lot of us are still anxious about going to gigs and I applaud the venue staff with their upped security to helping ease tensions and keep everyone safe; on the way there are full bag/body searches and metal detectors. However keeping positive tonight is a celebration of life and the unity of the music community!
First up tonight we have Good Tiger, these guys are made up of ex members of Tesseract, The Safety Fire, The Faceless and an ex-touring member of Architects, which is a pretty exciting mix! It is a bit unfortunate that due to the upped security not everyone got a chance to get in the Koko in tonight to catch their set due to getting everyone through the added security measures in place. Immediately the crowd are behind Good Tiger and they deliver a fantastic performance, the only down point for me is unfortunately the vocals are a little lost in the mix; but what I can hear is awesome and I really enjoy their set. 7/10

Second up tonight is Veil Of Maya considering that they are a 4 piece they make a hell of a lot of noise and are a talented bunch! I love how diverse the vocals are; Lukas Magyar has this incredible ability to jump between aggressive growls and soaring melodic vocals. Live they put on a hell of a show, I don’t think I see them still for even a split second; frontman Lukas even jumps down to sing on the barrier with the fans. An incredibly tight performance and they do a great job whipping the crowd into a frenzy ready for Periphery tonight, a solid performance; I really hope I get to see them perform again soon. 8/10

Headliners tonight Periphery are met with an incredible response of the sold-out Koko singing Muramasa so loud and with an incredible amount of passion. From the get go they have the crowd with them and it is a beautiful display of solidarity amongst the music community; especially after recent events, I found it a very emotional experience. After speaking to guitarist Matt before the gig, he said they often get asked why they have 3 guitarists; live you can see how much it is needed and how well it works, visually and musically. There is so much to Periphery’s music so many layers and parts, so 3 is very much needed to pull it all together and re-create it live; plus is looks killer seeing the 6 of them on stage.
Spencer’s vocals live are fantastic, it is a hard job for a vocalist in a band that tours heavily having little time for rest, however live his voice is fantastic both his clean and growl vocals, luckily enough the sound issues that were present earlier seem to be sorted and we are treated to a 13 track set list, which is incredibly well received by the sold out crowd which spends most of the set as a swirling circle pit and singing at the top of their lungs. An overall brilliant show and a reminder of how strong and united the metal community is, Periphery get 9/10 from me!
