Powerwolf – Best of the Blessed

Powerwolf release their first greatest hits album in July. Entitled “Best of the blessed” it’s a mixture of original versions and re-recorded versions of songs, and to make it even more appealing, the second disc is “The live sacrament” – a live album recorded on the Wolfsnächte tour in 2018, so you get a 16 track “best of” plus a 14 track live album. The 3CD Earbook version includes four extra live tracks.

For anyone new to Powerwolf this would be an excellent starting point – After 15 years and 7 studio albums, the band have plenty of songs to choose from and the “best of” disc has as you’d expect, their best songs (although I’m sure fans could argue about other songs they feel should have been included too), and the re-recorded versions sound great.

Powerwolf are a very theatrical band and to that extent a new live DVD must surely be only a year or two away as their stage shows have got bigger and better steadily over the years. Until then, the live CD here will have to do to keep fans happy. It’s really enjoyable – this is a band that puts on a great show and really get the crowds going, so while you don’t get the visuals from the show here, you do hear just how good they are live.

It’s a great release. Fans new to the band will appreciate the first disc, but also fans who have the original albums will want to get this for the new versions of seven songs, and of course the excellent live disc really adds to the appeal of the release.
