Summary:

It's a great album - nice and heavy with great songs, which is what we've come to expect from Rage.

German heavy metal band Rage have signed to SPV/Steamhammer to release their new album – Wings of Rage. It’s their 25th studio album. Formed in 1984, Peter Wagner is the only member to remain from the original lineup. They come from a great time for German metal, hitting the scene around the same time as Helloween, Running wild, Grave digger and Blind guardian – all bands that like Rage are still going strong well over 30 years on. Over the years they’ve embraced elements of thrash metal, speed metal and of course, power metal and have also used orchestras in their albums.

While most of the album is nice and heavy, “Shine a light” is a ballad. The orchestral element is prominent in the intro before the guitars take over as the centre of the sound. Despite being a ballad this is no lightweight acoustic song – it’s still a fairl heavy song, just not as heavy as the rest of the album.

Another songs where the orchestral elements can be heard is the excellent “A nameless grave”, a song about the millions of forgotten people who lost their lives in wars.
