Immediately Splintered Halo caught my attention with their masked appearance, and enigmatic front-woman Evelyn, I had to investigate more, and i’m pleased to say their latest offering We’re All A Little Mad In Here turned out to be a rare treat. I think they introduce themselves very well with; ‘Wonderland has been infested with faceless heavy metal wielding subversives and the Dominatrix rampages between your fantasies and nightmares. Don’t be shy… come in. What’s the worst that could happen?’
Having earned support slots with Kobra and the Lotus and The Courtesans, they have been clawing their way into their deserved spot in the metal scene. This 4 track EP is a brilliant glimpse into their twisted musical world. Their sound is very diverse, and they can’t be pigeon-holed into any particular genre of metal, and there aren’t really any bands that I can compare them to, a lot due to front woman Evelyn’s vocal talents, ranging from clean vocals that I really like the tone of; to full on screams and growls, really mixing things up. The first 3 tracks are the heavier tracks but with some really beautiful underlying melodic parts. A nice contrast is the final track Fallen From Grace featuring more clean vocals initially, progressing into the growls and finishing with some of my favourite guitar work.
Overall a really great little EP but did leave me hungry for more with only 4 tracks!
