While Heaven Wept – Fear Of Infinity (CD)

While Heaven Wept – Fear Of Infinity

Virginia, USA-based metal act WHILE HEAVEN WEPT used to be one of the best-kept secrets of the underground – at least til they released „Vast Oceans Lachrymose“ in 2009 which gained mastermind Tom Phillips and co a huge cult following! Especially since the band opted to leave the more doomy side of their sound behind and go for timeless, progressive and epic metal structures when it comes
to song writing. „Fear Of Infinity“, their first release for Nuclear Blast, is a brilliantly beautiful and highly emotional chameleon of an album – one you have to give time and discover new details with every spin! A melancholic and complex masterpiece, and definitely WHILE HEAVEN WEPT´s most stunning effort so far!“ Commented Tom Phillips: „”Fear Of Infinity” is clearly metal with REAL heart and emotion…more raw than ANYTHING else out there. It SHOULD stir intense emotions…be they love or hate…but to not feel anything hearing the album is indication of a lack of pulse.“

Having not heard about this band before, I didn’t know what to expect from this album. The write up sounded good so I thought I would give it a go. On the first listening, admittedly on cheap speakers, everything sounded the same. After playing it on something decent this album grew on me. There is only one volume this should be played… Loud. Now I know all albums should be played loud but with this you lose the power of the music if it’s too quiet. As the write up says, this album is quite progressive but without the tracks lasting three weeks. This album is for fans of bands like Dream Theatre and is definitely worth a punt.
